Update: Donald Obermiller admitted guilt today in the murders of his grandparents and the rape of his grandmother. He initially tried to dismiss his attorneys, but after questioning by the three-judge panel allowed them to stay on, though they seemed dismayed by his guilty plea.

There were 17 counts in all, and the PD notes it took over a half hour for the three judges to read through the ones that involve the death penalty.

Donald Obermiller was already in custody for allegedly murdering his grandparents.

Today, the story got that much more disgusting.

A grand jury indicted him on charges of rape after DNA collected from his grandmother showed that he raped her before killing both her, and her husband.

The PD reports:

Last month Obermiller was charged with aggravated murder, kidnapping, aggravated robbery, aggravated theft, burglary, attempted aggravated arson and tampering with evidence. The prosecutor's office is seeking the death penalty in the case. The rape charge was added to the murder charges.

Prosecutors said that while Obermiller's grandparents were out of town on Aug. 8 and 9, Obermiller stole coins from their residence in the 5500 block of Thomas Street.

When the couple returned home on Aug. 9, they reported the theft to police.

And after that, he allegedly killed them in cold blood, but apparently not before raping his 61-year-old grandmother.
