Lachana Williams Arrested For Attempted Kidnapping After Hanging Around Maternity Ward (Update)

Posted By on Fri, Dec 17, 2010 at 2:35 PM

Update: Well, Lachana Williams has admitted to police that her intent was to steal a baby. Details from NewsNet5:

Police said Williams admitted to staging a fake pregnancy and even told her family that she was about to give birth. She also told police she was checking out hospitals to try and steal a baby.

Lachana Williams, who probably has no trouble drawing attention to herself just by walking around, drew double the attention when she hung around a hospital maternity ward even though she had no child there and was not a patient at the facility.

The lurking did not go unnoticed.

According to NewsNet5, Williams, 20, had been trying to make her way in the maternity ward of Barberton Citizens Hospital for about a week. Finally, on Wednesday, she made it in, but it wasn't long before hospital staff noticed her "acting suspiciously" and called the cops, pretty sure Williams was angling to snatch a baby and make a break for it.

She is being held on $250,000 bond after being charged with attempted kidnapping.
