Pic of the Day: The Corpse Flower

This fine rain-forest specimen is know as the "corpse flower." Why? Because it smells like "rotting flesh." Yummy.

Ohio State's Joan Leonard has been trying to get one of these 8-foot-tall beauties to bloom for the last ten years, but hasn't had success. She's hoping that come May, her luck will turn and everyone will get to enjoy the fresh aroma of... death. Even if she's lucky enough for a full bloom, the flower will die within a few days, which is long enough for visitors to filter through for a view but not long enough for the corpse flower to stink up the whole joint.
