Jeffery English, Local Youth Leader, Charged with Prostitution

Posted By on Tue, Jun 28, 2011 at 10:41 AM

Jeffery English was one of the good guys, at least according to the rave reviews the youth mentor garnered in this Plain Dealer story on his life of serving the under-privileged . As the youth program coordinator at the St. Martin de Porres Family Center, he was a beacon of adult respectability in the Glenville neighborhood — a patch of town needing all the role models it can get. But even though he was once sitting high on the platform of public esteem, English is now in an embarrassing free fall from grace.

Federal prosecutors have slapped the 51-year-old English with charges related to prostitution. He’s currently on paid leave from the center.

The Plain Dealer has details:

Jeffery English was charged with coercion and enticement in a one-count information. The document charges that, from Jan. 7 to 20, English attempted to lure an unidentified person to travel across state lines to engage in the business of prostitution.

By being charged via an information, English waived his right to have his case presented to a grand jury, and typically means he is cooperating with the U.S. Attorney's office and will reach a plea agreement with federal prosecutors.

He is free on $25,000 bond.
