Cleveland Buys American

Posted By on Wed, Jul 6, 2011 at 8:49 AM

Since we just blew out the candles on America’s birthday cake, it seems the right time to talk patriotism: Who’s got it, and who’s vaguely French. And what better way to tell your red, white, and blueblood Americans from your commies and subversives than to have a peek in the garage? Chevy pickup? Surely driven by a son of Uncle Sam. Mini Cooper? Stinking al Qaeda operative.

This was the thinking behind a study released recently by The site waded through online consumer-search data to determine which U.S. cities are the most patriotic. The listings are based on the percentage of users in 50 metro areas interested in throwing dollars and cents at American-made autos in the last six months. Being America’s backbone, we ranked pretty high.

Only Detroit and St. Louis boasted more U.S.-stamped cars. According to the data, 59 percent of Cleveland searches were for American cars, not that we could actually afford them. And if you guessed that the ratio switches the closer you get to the coasts, you’re spot on: The list’s basement is filled with pinkos from California.
