Tribe Merch Sales Up

Posted By on Tue, Jul 19, 2011 at 3:37 PM

Everyones got to have one.
  • Everyone's got to have one.

Here's an interesting little tidbit coming from Joel Hammond over at Crain's Cleveland Business: now that the Tribe have brushed off their skill set and settled into a competitive rhythm this season, the fans are interested in gearing up. The team shops report an increase in merch sales this season — a pretty dramatic uptick, actually.

At Progressive Field, merchandise sales are up 48% over 2010, while at Indians team shops — there are five, in North Canton, Fairlawn, Mentor, Strongsville and Fairview Park — sales are up 69%. MLB teams split revenues from merchandise sales equally, and according to SportsONESource, a Charlotte, N.C., company that tracks these numbers, sales leaguewide are down 6%.

Items fans have a particular hankering for this season include the alternate hats with the red “C” and “Wahoo Baseball” t-shirts. We're guess the team's performance is the obvious reason behind the surge, although it's possible everyone's finally gotten around to realizing Kenny Lofton no longer plays in the Majors, and so it might be time to get rid of that jersey.
