There is One Person in the World Who Thinks Anthony Sowell is a Decent Fella

Convicted and waiting to be sentenced serial killer Anthony Sowell is just that: a sick serial killer, one who raped and murdered at least 11 women. The mitigation phase of his trial is underway as the world awaits the decision on whether Sowell will be given the death penalty for his crimes.

This portion of the trial is just as excruciatingly disturbing as the one prior. Among the more sordid and depressing details revealed: his niece testified that he began raping her when he was 11. Witnesses for both sides are still hitting the stand, and among the relatives, former friends, doctors, and others, Sowell's former cellmate in Grafton, Roosevelt Lloyd, who spent 20 years behind bars for rape, was brought by the defense to speak about Sowell. Via Fox 8:

"I don't appreciate what he did," Lloyd said. "What he did was wrong, very wrong, and I'm sad for the family. ... What you all see of as today is for this period, but what you don't see about Sowell is how he got like that. He's a nice, loving, caring person. What triggered this today, I don't know, but what I do know is that there are people who love him.

"I just couldn't see myself turning my back on him because that man right there, I love him like a brother, regardless of what he's done. He deserves not to die. People want him to die for what he's done, but killing him ain't gonna bring nobody back. ... He's a disturbed young man. I didn't know how deeply disturbed, but if you would have met him 10 years ago, you would have loved him just like we all loved him. ... He's really no monster."

In addition, the defense called Sowell's sixth-trade teacher who said that Sowell and good attendance, a detail which mitigates exactly 0% of the fact that Anthony Sowell killed 11 people.
