As the World Tweets: the Anthony Sowell Edition

Posted By on Fri, Aug 12, 2011 at 3:13 PM

As we reported earlier this afternoon, convicted serial killer Anthony Sowell has been sentenced to death for the brutal murders of 11 women at his Imperial Avenue home. Hopefully, the victims' families can draw some comfort from the way the wheels of justice have turned on this one.

No question about it, the case was the most high profile courtroom event the town has seen in awhile. Now that it's over, we thought it would be interesting to crowd source what Clevelanders are feeling about the conviction and sentencing. This afternoon we surfed through Twitter for comments related to Sowell. Below, we've posted a selection of Tweets. We decided to steer clear of professional media types and stuck to what regular Jacks and Janes are saying about the crime. The comments range from the thoughtful and philosophic to the irreverent and brash. We're not going to post any handles — the point isn't to out anyone. Instead, we're just interested in a random sample of what's tumbling out of people's heads and landing online. Read on:

NO WAY it seems our judicial system functions correctly from time to time. #AnthonySowell #burninhellscumbag

If #anthonysowell doesn't deserve death #ReginaBrett of the #PlainDealer, then who does?

Why is it taking so long to kill #anthonysowell

#anthonysowell Death Should Be A Holiday #weezyvoice

My personal opinion, Anthony Sowell does not deserve mercy, he deserves to be beaten to death by his victims families. #anthonysowell

rarely happens in blk-on-blk homicide RT @TheRoot247: Anthony Sowell gets death penalty for killing 11 black women.

It's a lot more people out here besides sowell who deserves the death penalty
