Joe the Plumber Mulling Over Congressional Run

Joe the shameless fameball Plumber (who signs his tax return as Joe Wurzelbacher) is thinking about switching up his MO. Instead of hanging on the sidelines lobbing insensible criticisms at politicians, everyone's favorite '08 campaign meme is actually considering running for office, according to the Toledo Blade.

Surely you remember Wurzelbacher, who was upgraded from plumber to some kind of red meat grassroots political stage prop when he asked then-candidate Obama some tough questions at a Ohio campaign stop in the last election cycle. Since then, he hasn't been acting very grassrootsy, what with TV appearances and jet-setting around the country hanging with the Palins and Anne Coulter.

The Blade reports the Joe formerly known as a Plumber is being asked by Lucas County Republicans to run against U.S. Rep. Marcy Kaptur in 2012. They believe Wurzelbacher would be a good funding draw. No confirmation from the man himself on whether he'll run, but a Republican source put the odds at 90 percent.

In an interview with the Colorado Independent in 2009, Wurzelbacher reflected on possibly running for office (and also said he didn't want “queers” “anywhere near my children”). From the Huffington Post:

In the vein of George W. Bush and Michael Steele, Joe the Plumber also indicated that he wouldn't run for public office until the Lord had given him a cue. "God hasn't said, 'Joe, I want you to run.' I feel more important to just encourage people to get involved, one way or another. If I can inspire some leaders, that would be great." Joe added: "I don't know if I want to be a leader."

Obviously, the powers that be that got to Wurzelbacher, reminding him that his fame clock is on minute 14 and he's got to do something right quick if he doesn't want to do back to being a regular Joe.
