Alleged Cockfighting Ring Busted in Medina (Updated)

Update: Prosecutors filed charges yesterday against Dale Lind, the Medina County man whose property was home to an alleged cockfighting ring according to the Medina SPCA.

The early October raid and seizure of a menagerie of animals, including chickens and roosters, led to the charges which include one for cockfighting, one for possession of criminal tools, and other charges involving calves and sheep.

Lind had previously told NewsNet5: “They’re full of bologna. I’m not fighting chickens. I sell them, but I don’t fight any."

Here's something you don't see, or at least hear about, every day in Cleveland: a cockfighting ring. Yee-haw.

NewsNet5 isn't reporting the name of the alleged ringmaster because he has yet to be charged or arrested, but they report that the Medina County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals got a call from a concerned neighbor about the large amounts of animals on the property.

When they showed up, they took 30-50 roosters and every other animal that was on the property, which apparently included pigs, calves, goats, and sheep. Old McDonald had a farm. And a cockfighting ring.

There's allegedly evidence of a fighting area, plus the animal folks say some of the roosters were thin and missing feathers.

As for the owner of the property, the unnamed gentleman had a previous conviction for running a cockfighting ring in 2007 and has a current pending animal cruelty charge, according to reports.

When NewsNet5 reached him for comment, he had this to say: “They’re full of baloney."

A better response, given the circumstances, would have been: "That's chicken shit."
