26-year-old Robert Huber pulled off a unique and dangerous feat Sunday morning: two DUIs in less than four hours. The Morning Journal brings the derelict details.

It's easier to start at the end, when Huber was pulled over a 4 a.m. in a Jeep Grand Cherokee. When coppers came to the window, they noticed the unmistakable odor of booze and Huber couldn't find his driver's license. Ah, that's right, he said, his license was at the Norwalk police station because they took it after he got a DUI a few hours earlier. Whoops. At that point, Huber had a .218 BAC.

It was a scant three hours earlier when Huber blew a 0.199 for another officer. Yes, it seems after being released and after retrieving his Jeep, which had been released to a sober party, he had more to drink.

Huber had been arrested around 1:30 a.m. when Norwalk police went to an apartment complex at 19 Grand Ave., according to Capt. Eric Hipp. Witnesses told police that a red Jeep had been speeding up and down the street, peeling out and slamming on the brakes several times, according to the police report.

Police found Huber inside the Jeep in front of another apartment. When Huber got out of the jeep, he denied driving it, telling police he had only started it to get warm.

Huber smelled strongly of alcohol, according to the report. He also told police that he had contact lenses, but wasn’t wearing them, the report stated.

For his second DUI dalliance, Huber was charged with OVI, driving with no license, and no tail lights. He was released again, and, to his credit, managed not to acquire a third DUI charge that night.
