Ohio Schools Fill Up List of 30 Druggiest Colleges

PCU was not in Ohio, right?
  • PCU was not in Ohio, right?

Like just about every major news source trying desperately to understand the interwebs, The Daily Beast stakes a lot of its journo-cred on lists. You know, because having the unpaid intern burn down a week or two “crunching numbers” is an essential research effort in keeping democracy safe, or something.

Anyway, this latest little exercise is sure to bring in the pageviews: “30 Druggiest Colleges in the US.” We imagine there are a whole lot of parents out there slamming down their mouse angry this didn’t came out before they mailed in the latest tuition check.

Now, the “science” going into the ranking is pretty shoddy: the DB took the number of drug-related campus arrests, calculated the arrest-per-capita based on the enrollment numbers and tacked on the government’s figures on illicit drug use statewide for 19 to 25 year olds.

The Buckeye State’s institutions of higher learning* earn a pretty serious amount of real estate on this list: Miami University of Ohio is listed at 28; Ohio Wesleyan University is 11; Kenyon College is 5; and Denison University gets the silver, coming in at 2.

To be fair, we actually went to one of these schools, and we don’t really think it was all that druggy. And exactly how you could compile a list like this and leave Oberlin College and Ohio University off is a head scratcher to us.

*HA.HA. GET IT?!?!?!
