BRGR 9 Now Open, Here Are Some Quick Thoughts

Posted By on Fri, May 18, 2012 at 1:16 PM

BRGR 9 is the latest in what seems to be a resurgence of delightful lunch options in the Warehouse District — Barroco and an Indian place are set to debut soon; El Guero already swung open the doors. Today was day one for the new joint in the old Zdara space on W. 9th.

As intrepid reporters, we set out for a lunch trip that covered all 100 feet from our office to BRGR 9's front door to try it for you.

Our thoughts? Lordy, what a menu. There's damn near two dozen burger options ($8-$10), some covered in short ribs, pork belly, bacon jalapeno jam, corn beef, pastrami, and other less meat-centric options. Requisite chicken, turkey, and vegan burgers are also on the list for those vegetarians, anti-beef folks, or people who don't think their meat needs to be topped by more meat.

The verdict: BRGR 9, which we assume is not supposed to be pronounced, sort of like the Prince of restaurants, has the same owners as Heck's, which has long been known as one of the most consistent burger options in the city. And BRGR 9's beef was solid. We also sampled the vegan burger, which was pretty good, and the buffalo chicken patty, which was above average.

Filling the rest of the menu are some small plates — the pork legs and lobster corndog the most intriguing in the batch — and some salads. Sides: eggplant fires, sweet potato tots, truffle potato straws, and Heck's fries ($2.50 each if you're ordering a burger), and a host of a dozen-plus dipping sauces.

It's just day one, and there are the usual wrinkles to iron out, but let us be the first to welcome BRGR 9 to the neighborhood. Unfortunately, no menu online yet. Hopefully they'll rectify that soon.
