Barberton Bans Feeding Animals After Dark

Posted By on Tue, Dec 18, 2012 at 1:28 PM

With the Monday night passage of a controversial ordinance, Barberton residents are no longer allowed to feed animals after sunset.

Though a vocal opposition group stated their case against the measure for several months running, City Council members explained that the law is meant to slow a growing stray animal threat. It's a safety precaution for residents and their pets, according to Mayor Bill Judge.

Beyond directly feeding animals, residents are also prohibited from leaving food outside through the night.

The law pegs any infractions as minor misdemeanors, carrying a potential $50 fine.
