- Some quick follow-up, via WKYC, from the family of Charlie Kho, whose killer was sentenced yesterday: ""I really thought she was going to get some kind of time. They would have been happy with 180 days. Six months. But that lady will not spend a day in jail. Nothing," his grandmother says.

- Aaron Marshall at The PD writes about Gov. John Kasich's upcoming "reelection budget" this morning. Local municipalities and school districts are still reeling from the governor's slash-and-then-keep-on-slashin' approach two years ago. Marshall points out that this go-around should be easier on the financial senses, setting Kasich up for a handful of talking points in 2014. Keep an eye out for the reformed school funding formula, which has been long awaited from all corners of the state:

The GOP governor, an ardent supporter of voucher programs and charter schools, has talked about a per-pupil approach in which state funding follows children as they move between schools.

Dave Varda, head of the Ohio Association of School Business Officials, said school administrators don't expect the pie to get much bigger under Kasich's new plan. "We're not expecting much additional resources, but we're hoping for some," he said.

Varda said the approach of the money "following the child" can be problematic, depending on how the local share coming from property taxes is incorporated into the formula.

- Andrew Holmes and Charley Burns started up a nifty little blog called W 45th And Clinton earlier this month, so we're digging in this morning.
