License Plate Fees Proposed; Budget To Be Unveiled Feb. 4

Posted By on Tue, Jan 29, 2013 at 11:05 AM

Rex Santus, a fellow in The E.W. Scripps School of Journalism Statehouse News Bureau, highlights a proposal this morning that would add a license plate fee to Ohio drivers. The $10 fee would be issued every seven years for the mandatory replacement of license plates.

An additional fee would be imposed for drivers wishing to keep their old letters and numbers, Santus writes.

This notion came as a budgetary request from the Department of Public Safety. Gov. John Kasich will present his administration's biennial budget Feb. 4.

Also as part of this proposal is the phase-out of the state's older license plate designs. A new design will be released April 15.
