City Councilman Westbrook to Retire

Jay Westbrook, councilman for Cleveland's Ward 16, will officially announce his plans to retire at the end of 2013 today.

Westbrook has served on city council since 1980 and served as president from 1990-99, when a coup ousted Westbrook and instated Mike Polensek.

Ward 16 is really bizarrely shaped: It's the anorexic Africa of Cleveland's "Mid-west Side." It includes the Edgewater, Cudell, and West Boulevard neighborhoods. Westbrook's term ends on Dec. 31, 2013 and he says he has no intention of running for re-election.
