St. Ignatius Alum Derek Dietrich to Make MLB Debut

Posted By on Wed, May 8, 2013 at 1:42 PM

Via the St. Ignatius High School alumni page, '07 graduate Derek Dietrich has been called up by the Miami Marlins and will make his major league baseball debut this afternoon. The Marlins take on the San Diego Padres at 3:40 p.m. in the featured free game of the day on

Dietrich was traded to the Marlins by the Tampa Bay Rays' organization in the off-season for high-priced shortstop Yunel Escobar. He has been putting up impressive numbers in Double-A and working to bring his infield defense up to his high-caliber hitting.

In charming tangential news, Dietrich is an amateur juggler, and has performed for charity events and even during baseball games as he's ascended the minor leagues.
