Mace Brand Moving HQ to Cleveland

Posted By on Thu, Oct 17, 2013 at 3:06 PM

Did you guys know "Mace" was one of those Kleenexian brands where the brand name itself has become synonymous with the product? I sure as hell didn't. Turns out Mace isn't a form or variant of pepper spray; it's the company which makes it. Total mind blow.

And they've now officially moved from Pennsylvania to Cleveland, thanks to money from the state and a county fund geared toward economic development. Evidently it took a $650,000 loan to lure Mace from their PA home base.

Michelle Jarboe McFee wrote a story in May which indicated that Mace was hoping to set up shop in their new location on Carnegie (the former Cleveland Granite and Marble Building) in August, but the ribbon-cutting ceremony was this morning.

Mace signed a long-term lease with the property and intends to take advantage of the (as yet theoretical) Euclid Corridor industry clustering. They'll house their corporate headquarters and manufacturing operations there.

And it turns the Mace board is full of Northeast Ohio business bros, to boot. They've been orchestrating Cleveland connections and investments from their various Beachwood offices and investment firms in concert with the Global Center for Health Innovation.

The CEO John McCann had been "camped out" in temporary offices in Solon for much of the summer. Within the next couple of years, McCann estimates that Mace will employ up to 50 local employees.

Sweet! We're getting Maced!
