Pillsbury Thinks Cleveland Sports Fans Don't Need Their Teams in the Playoffs

Posted By on Mon, Dec 23, 2013 at 9:53 AM

For some reason, Pillsbury is sponsoring a BuzzFeed post (you can probably just stop reading here, if you'd like) about Cleveland sports fans' post-season aspirations. To wit, there are so many better things in this city; why worry about the playoffs?

The savvy listicle whips out reasons that Cleveland fans should divert their attention elsewhere, away from the tragedies taking place on Sunday afternoons downtown.

Pillsbury's Cleveland knowledge begins like so many other lists: "The Cleveland Orchestra is universally recognized as one of the best in the world. Who needs football when you have this much culture?" The "article" never really recovers from its get-in-line Cleveland fanfare. At one point, the copywriter from BuzzFeed (or is the writer actually from Pillsbury?) actually extols the virtues of Kid Cudi's hat.

And then there's this oddity:

Cleveland was the first city to have fully integrated electricity… so that’s good!

What the hell is that even supposed to mean?

Of course, the post ends with a little nod to Pillsbury's corporate stewardship (namely, providing frosting for your football-themed pizza).

Apologies may be in order for even forwarding this nonsense to your attention, oft-respected readers, but, really, we all need a moment or two of thorough head-scratching now and then.

Now go bake some Pillsbury cookies and enjoy your day.
