Shelby Police Department May Seek Volunteers to Spend a Night in Jail

Posted By on Tue, Feb 4, 2014 at 10:37 AM

The Shelby Police Department wants to know if you would like to spend a night in jail.

This message was posted to the PD's Facebook page earlier this morning:

The city, which has been without a jail since 2007, is opening up a new facility this spring and may be looking for some volunteers to help train its staff.

“There’s nothing like working in a real kind of circumstance," Police Chief Charles Roub told Fox 8. "Even though you’re dealing with volunteers, we still want to go through that whole process, run them through paperwork and whole process of book-in and up to incarceration."

The city is also tossing around the idea of "pay to stay," to help raise money for a local charity.

So what do you say, folks? Are you interested in learning more about the ins and outs of a small town jail? Would you want to stay overnight?

No word on whether or not volunteers would be able to receive conjugal visits.
