Devo guitarist Bob Casale dies of heart failure

Last year, drummer Alan Myers, who was considered part of the "classic line-up" of the New Wave group Devo, died of cancer. He played a crucial role in helping the seminal New Wave/punk band form its sound shortly after it formed in Akron in the early '70s. Though he wasn't the original drummer, he played on the band's most popular albums. Yesterday, the band lost another member as guitarist Bob Casale, a guy that brother Gerald Casale writes was "there in the trenches with me from the beginning," passed away from heart failure. "He was excited about the possibility of [singer] Mark Mothersbaugh allowing Devo to play shows again," Casale writes on the Devo Facebook page. We were excited about that possibility too and welcomed the group back to the limelight in 2010 when it issued its first studio album in two decades (you can read the profile piece that ran at the time here). Our thoughts go out to the Casale family.
