County Plans 'Missing Persons Day' for Sunday

More than a year ago, the most internationally widespread spotlight was placed firmly on Cleveland. Since then, the narrative of missing persons has gotten little more than passing references in congratulatory news conferences. The FBI brushed off any meaningful connection between their sudden interest in Christina Adkins' case and the windfall of public interest stemming from Seymour Avenue. The police department won't even comment on the matter.

But this weekend, Cuyahoga County will host Missing Persons Day downtown, which will concentrate the local attention of both residents and leaders once again on this most harrowing and abstract of problems.

The public event will take place from noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday at 1 West Lakeside Drive. A memorial service and dove release will begin at 1 p.m. Here's a quick rundown of the event's features:

- Family members can submit DNA reference samples and create online profiles
- Officers will be available to take tips on old cases and conduct interviews on new cases
- Community organizations will be on hand to provide resources
