New Cleveland Concert Venue Announces First String of Shows

Posted By on Wed, Jun 18, 2014 at 12:15 PM

While construction is still on-going, the Music Box Supper Club, a new two-story concert venue located on the West Bank of the Flats next to Shooters and the Improv, has announced its first string of shows. The venue will feature two rooms — an upstairs concert hall and a downstairs supper club stage. The alternative folk group honeyhoney (Aug. 15) plays the first official show. The rest of the schedule includes a mix of rock, pop and jazz. Some highlights include alt-rockers Cracker (Aug. 17); singer-songwriter Bruce Cockburn (Aug. 20); R&B/gospel singer Mavis Staples (Aug. 21); and singer-songwriter Billy Bragg (Sept. 15). Also, the veteran punk band X will play four of its albums in their entirety during a four-night stand from Tuesday, Sept. 9 to Friday, Sept. 12. "The Music Box is absolutely filling a niche in the Northeast Ohio concert scene," says Music Box Vice President Mike Miller in a press release sent out today. "Not only are we booking acts who might have otherwise passed over playing Cleveland, but we're providing an intimate, up-close concert experience for the audience." Miller's wife Colleen will book the bands. She brings two decades of booking experience to the table (she used to book the Old Town School of Folk Music and City Winery Chicago). The club will also feature menus "focused on locally sourced food products obtained through sustainable and ethical resources" and will feature lunch, dinner and late-night menus. Tickets to the upcoming concerts go on sale to the general public at 10 a.m. on Friday via musicboxcle.com/concerts. Members of the Music Box's VIP Membership program can buy tickets starting today — to join that program visit musicboxcle.com/vip.
