Cleveland's streets are hot with protests this weekend as groups from Ferguson, Missouri, join the local movement to demand justice for victims of police brutality.

Charles Wade, an organizer from Ferguson, spoke to a gathered crowd at the Cudell Rec Center Saturday morning, in front of a memorial for Tamir Rice in the gazebo where he was shot by Cleveland police.

Wade said that when his group arrived in Cleveland Friday night, they were assaulted by two employees at the Motel 6 in Middleburg Heights.

The NEOMG's Adam Ferrise reported this afternoon that at least one guilty employee was an off-duty manager, and that she was intoxicated when she approached the Ferguson group and slapped four of them in the face. She was taken to the police station following the incident and posted bond.

"The reality is it was a distraction," Wade said, "but we are undeterred. We love you all. We appreciate your love, and we're ready for today."

The protests have been raging all afternoon and have featured, among other things, an evacuation of the Steelyard Commons Wal-Mart and an attempt, foiled by security and Cleveland Police, to enter Tower City on Public Square.

The protesters have been staging die-ins and blocking streets at various intersections downtown, including beneath the GE Chandelier at Playhouse Square.
