Plucky Cleveland Cinemas Will Show "The Interview" at Tower City

Posted By on Tue, Dec 23, 2014 at 12:31 PM

Tower City wil be showing "The Interview" starting Christmas Day, according to a press release from Cleveland Cinemas.

"After an out pouring of criticism from politicians, including President Obama, and a strong showing of support from independent exhibitors like Cleveland Cinemas, SONY has reversed their decision to pull the film," the statement read.

Last we'd heard, SONY was still exploring options for distribution, but hadn't yet re-committed to a theatrical release, especially given the uncertainly of the nation's major cinemas: Cinemark, AMC and Regal, notably.

“It is still our hope that anyone who wants to see this movie will get the opportunity to do so,” SONY said, in an emailed statement to Yahoo.

The going assumption was that the studio would distribute the film on their streaming service, Crackle

But Cleveland Cinemas remains undeterred. They're opening the film at Tower City, and additional locations are currently "being discussed."

“We are happy that SONY has decided to release THE INTERVIEW,” said Jonathan Forman, President of Cleveland Cinemas, in the statement. “Freedom of speech and artistic expression are core values to America and Cleveland Cinemas has never been one to shy away from a film due to its content. To not allow audiences access to this film would not have been right.”

Merry Christmas, America!
