A Cleveland police officer is facing misdemeanor charges after a superior saw him bumbling around a residential neighborhood, then dropping his drawers to take a drunken leak, all while carrying a loaded handgun.

The officer, 57-year-old Paul Juliano, was off-duty at the time of the incident.

Cleveland.com has the details:
Cleveland police Sgt. Robert Dunn said he first saw Juliano at the corner of Rocky River Drive and Larchwood Avenue about 8:50 p.m. Saturday, according to court records. Juliano had glassy eyes, slurred speech, smelled of alcohol and had to lean on vehicles parked on the street to support himself, Dunn wrote in an affidavit.

At one point during Dunn's investigation, Juliano reportedly got out of the car and urinated on the curb in front of a residential housing building. Juliano had a Smith & Wesson model 5943 handgun holstered to his right hip.
What's more, police received a call on Saturday from a driver who spotted a car driving recklessly near Rocky River Dr. and Lorain Ave. Police pulled the vehicle over soon after and arrested the driver, 54-year-old Howard Kennedy, who reportedly told officers, "Look, I'm just trying to get my buddy home. He's drunker than I am."

A police report on the drunken driving incident doesn't specifically name Juliano as Kennedy's passenger, but police officials did say Juliano's charges were related to Kennedy's arrest, Cleveland.com reports.

Just last week, Scene tackled the poignant question — What happens when police need prosecuting? — in our cover story Law & Order: C.L.E. Read it here, if you missed it.

Juliano is slated to appear in court on Feb. 4.
