From 6 to 8:30 p.m. this Friday, Apr. 17, Harris Stanton Gallery’s Cleveland location hosts its 1st Annual Art-ini Auction, an art auction and vodka tasting party to benefit the Cleveland Arts Prize. More than 80 art items by regional and international artists represented by Harris Stanton Gallery will be available, with opening bids set at 20% below retail. The $10 admission includes a signature martini and appetizers. The admission charge is fully donated to the Cleveland Arts Prize.

"The new Cleveland gallery will inaugurate the philanthropic tradition we have held at the Akron gallery for over two decades,” says Harris Stanton Gallery Director Ellie Kaiser. “Our Art-tini Auction (formerly known as the Absolute Art Auction) is a silent auction benefitting the Akron Art Museum at our Akron location. A portion of the proceeds is donated to the museum to use as they see fit. In 2010 the money raised went towards Isaac Julian’s True North exhibition, the museum’s first multi-media installation, and in 2011 towards an installation of Sarah Kabot’s work, Unfolding Space.”

“In Cleveland, we will select a visual arts oriented non-profit each year as the recipient of a portion of the Auction’s proceeds,” she continues. “This year, we have chosen the Cleveland Arts Prize to be the beneficiary. The mission of the Cleveland Arts Prize is to support and encourage artists and to promote public awareness of artistic creativity in Northeast Ohio through the work of the Arts Prize recipients."

The Cleveland Arts Prize is the oldest of its kind in the country. Each year, the organization awards five outstanding, local individuals prizes of $10,000 each. The Cleveland Arts Prize is moving into the newly remodeled (and soon-to-be-unified) campus of the Cleveland Institute of Art. This year’s CAP winners should be released in the coming weeks. Stay tuned for more info.

“We are excited to continue this event that has been successful at our Akron location for 28 years,” adds Kaiser. “The Cleveland Art Prize felt like a natural recipient for the auction given Meg Stanton’s (Owner of Harris Stanton Gallery) involvement with the organization.”
