Rocket Fizz
, a California-based soda and sweets shop chain, opened quietly in downtown Cleveland's 5th Street Arcades on Sunday.

The 530 Euclid Avenue retail front is the company's second Ohio location (you can find the other on High Street in Columbus), but the first for northeast Ohio couple Robert and Susan Hale who've spent the last few months working toward its opening.

"We first learned about the company on Undercover Boss," Susan told Scene earlier this afternoon, "And we'd been wanting to open up our own business," she said. An affinity for all things sweet made it a natural fit for the husband/wife duo.

Though their store is only a few days old, it's already crammed with thousands — yes, thousands — of sweet and vintage treats. "We have over 400 kinds of soda alone," Susan said, plus buckets of candy including taffy, moon pies, wax lips, jaw breakers, sour straws, lemon heads, Mars bars, candy cigarettes, as well as a whole inventory of bacon-themed goodies.

Funky alumnium signs, retro concert posters, and other knickknacks that you never knew you needed also line the walls of the generously sized store.
"It's like sensory overload," Susan said about her store. We'd compare it to a Big Fun for junk food addicts, with its emphasis on retro and nostalgic treats that will make folks of all ages swoon.

Susan says hours are still being worked out, but that they plan to be open everyday, if possible, from 10:30 a.m. to around 8 p.m.

Additional information can be found on the Cleveland store's Facebook page or by calling 216.505.5225.
