The short street that connects MLK Boulevard to Ansel Road (upwards from the Cultural Gardens) will be dubbed "St. Casimir Way," in honor of the historic Polish parish that was closed in 2009 and re-opened in 2012.

The unveiling and dedication of the street will occur after an 11:30 a.m. mass and a brief procession Sunday.

"St. Casimir is a destination parish, and now it will be marked and mapped," stated a church press release.

Indeed, the community of St. Casimir was vocal in its opposition of Bishop Lennon's aggressive shuttering strategy in 2009. Parishioners there spearheaded the activism of many of the city's ethnic, inner-city churchgoers who felt cast aside by Cleveland's Catholic leadership.

Volunteers like Joe Feckanin are elated. Feckanin suggested that June 14, dedication day, should be celebrated by "all those who stood up and defended the faith."

"The renaming of Saint Casimir Way is a real testimony to the importance of our parish to this community - not just its past, but its present and future," said Fr. Father Eric Orzech, Pastor at St. Casimir.

After the dedication, everyone is invited back to the church for a hearty Polish dinner for $10 a pop.
