Just a reminder for all those folks considering applying for the Cleveland Community Police Commission: The second public meeting to explain what the commission is and answer residents' questions will be held Monday, Aug. 3, at 6:00 p.m., at the offices of the Hispanic Alliance on W. 25th St.

As at the first public meeting, members of the 10-member selection panel, whom Mayor Jackson appointed earlier this month, will be on hand to provide information and clarification. Their big message at the first meeting: Don't apply unless you've got time. The key mandate of the Community Police Commission, as outlined in the Consent Decree, is to function as a liaison between the police department and the community, offering recommendations about effective policing, and providing transparency during reform.

Applications are available online here, and are due by Thursday, August 6.

Per the city, in addition to the 10 members recommended by the Selection Panel, the Commission will also include a member appointed by each of the three local police associations: the Cleveland Police Patrolmen’s Association, the Fraternal Order of Police and the Black Shield.
