The Fall 2015 issue of CAN Journal is here! Well, to be more specific, it’s at 1point618 in the Gordon Square Arts District. Stop by 1point618 this Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. for the official CAN Journal Fall 2015 Issue Launch Party to be the first to get your copy.

The Collective Arts Network (CAN) is comprised of more than 80 art galleries, institutions, schools and individual artists. CAN Journal was launched as a quarterly in June 2012. Each quarter, CAN distributes 10,000 free, full-color copies to more than 200 locations throughout Northeast Ohio. The Summer 2015 issue is the largest and most informative to date. CAN was recently recognized as a tax-exempt nonprofit corporation.

“The Fall issue looks ahead at scores of exhibits coming September through November,” CAN Editor and Publisher Michael Gill explains. “We're doing a talk at 7 p.m. [Friday] to advise CAN members and the public of progress, including that CAN recently received federal approval of nonprofit status, recently hired administrative support, recently launched a weekly e-newsletter, is in the process of launching a new website and continues to grow in membership. The growth of CAN is hard evidence of the strength and innovation in Northeast Ohio's art scene.”

While there, you’ll also have an opportunity to view 1point618’s 10th anniversary show.

"1point618 celebrates 10 years in the Gordon Square Arts District with our show 10 x 66 x 88,” says 1point818 Associate Director Karen Petkovic. “Ten years, 66 artists, 88 exhibitions. 10 years ago, Robert Maschke was a pioneer in a yet to be discovered neighborhood. We have watched the neighborhood transform and become a destination for art, fine dining, retail, and living. This show represents the talented individuals who have allowed us to achieve our mission of bringing engaging, innovative artwork to this community.”

The exhibition includes work by Augusto Bordelois, Valerie Grossman, Sarah Kabot, Mark Keffer, Amber Kempthorn, Aaron Koehn, Peggy Kwong-Gordon, Liz Maugans, Charles Mintz, Rita Montlack, Qian Li, Baila Litton, Kathleen Loe, Joseph Ribic, Jenniffer Omaitz, John Pearson, Sid Rheuban, Gregory Scott, George Schroeder, Audra Skuodas, Susan Squires, Dan Tranberg, Barry Underwood, Royden Watson, Terry Welker and Brent Kee Young.

“1point618 consistently exhibits impressive art by the most respected artists in our area,” says H. Scott Westover, curator of Progressive’s Corporate Art Collection. “This 10th anniversary show crystallizes the gallery’s commitment to showcasing thoughtful, high quality art from a potent group of artists, each with very distinct vision and intent. I am particularly grateful for the artists I’ve come to know better personally and professionally within the gallery’s arc of discourse. And nobody throws a better Friday night opening than Robert Maschke.”

The exhibition remains on view during regular gallery hours through Sept. 12.
