Local Graphic Artist Derf Backderf to Host Book Launch Party at the B-side Lounge

Posted By on Thu, Oct 15, 2015 at 11:28 AM

The follow-up to his last graphic novel, My Friend Dahmer, Derf Backderf’s new book, Trashed, is “an ode to the crap job of all crap jobs—garbage collector.” According to the press release announcing the book's release, “Anyone who has ever been trapped in a soul-sucking gig will relate to this tale.” The story centers on three friends who clean garbage off the streets while battling all sorts of obstacles, including summer’s extreme heat and winter’s frigid cold. Derf’s own experiences as a garbage collector inspired the story.

At 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17, Derf will host a book launch party at the B-Side Liquor Lounge. He’ll present a slideshow presentation about the making of the book. A Q&A and signing will follow. Copies of Trashed will be available through a special arrangement with the publisher, Abrams Books, three weeks before the official release date. Mac’s Backs, Cleveland’s oldest independent bookstore, is sponsoring the event.
