Updated: Northeast Ohio Bandit Who Took Off with Thousands of Dollars (and Hours) in Energy Has Been Arrested

Update: Solon PD returned our call this afternoon to let us know the energy drink snatching man was caught stealing a Northface jacket from Nordstrom Rack at Crocker Park and was promptly detained. Since his arrest, police have said cities all over the area have been calling into the Cuyahoga County jail that's holding him saying he's stolen from them as well. According to police, the man was reselling the drinks to convenience stores for quick cash to supplement a heroin addiction.

It's been a lethargic month for Solon. The city's stock of caffeine boosters has dropped dramatically, all thanks to one young man who has made out with thousands of dollars in energy drinks stolen from local retailers.

According to Fox8, a man in his early 20s stole around $2,000 in 5-Hour Energy drinks between Oct. 7 and Nov. 8. In October, the thief hit up a Springfield Walmart, gliding in and perusing the shelves before taking off with the store's entire stock of the drink. By Nov. 7, the man struck a Brimfield Walmart, lifting again the entire stock of 5-Hour Energies. However, police were able to catch up to the perp, snagging his loot before he fled on foot. There, police collected two grand in stolen energy boosters.

A close encounter with the cops didn't slow the hyped-up bandit down as he was seen again the next day at a Solon Giant Eagle around 9 p.m., using gift bags to hide more stolen drinks.

No word yet on what the young man was intending to use the drinks for, whether for personal use, resale or an avant garde art piece. But we have done the math, and our caffeine-addicted robber has stolen about 4,445 hours of energy in total, which is more than six months with a non-stop buzz.

Fox8 also mentions the thief, around 6 feet tall, may have an accomplice as a getaway driver in an orange Jeep Patriot can be seen in one of the surveillance videos.

We've reached out to detectives on the case for comment, though as of yet there's been no update. Any information on the suspect can of course be handed over to Solon police at 440-248-1234.
