The guys in the New York-based jazz act, the Daniel Bennett Group, describe their sound as “modern jazz, mixed with elements of American folk, world music and experimental classical music.” The Boston Globe calls the music a groovy "mix of jazz, folk, and minimalism." Notable media outlets such as NPR, First Coast Living (NBC), Yahoo Voices, Timeout New York and the Village Voice have also taken notice and posted positive reviews.

The group comes to Cleveland this weekend for two shows in support of its new album, The Mystery at Clown Castle. The album, which opens with the breezy sax-driven tune “The Clown Chemist” — think Blues Traveler meets John Coltrane — suggests the band’s contemporary take on the genre. The group plays at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Cleveland Public Library and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 6, at the South Euclid-Lyndhurst Library. Guitarist Nat Janoff and percussionist Matthew Feick will join multi-instrumentalist band leader Daniel Bennett. Active in the New York City musical theater scene, Bennett recently composed the musical score for stage adaptations of Frankenstein and Brave Smiles at the Hudson Guild Theatre in Manhattan. He also played woodwinds in Blank! The Musical.

Both shows are free.
