Original Star Wars Art Highlights Carol & John's Comic Book Shop's Annual Customer Appreciation Party

Posted By on Tue, Dec 15, 2015 at 9:23 AM

The Annual Customer Appreciation Christmas Party at Carol & John’s Comic Book Shop is a tradition for the community of pop culture enthusiasts that has sprouted up around the shop since its inception 25 years ago. Bigger and better each year, the party includes discount sales throughout the store, holiday fun, refreshments and a raffle.

In celebration of this month’s premier of Star Wars Episode VIII: The Force Awakens, this year’s Christmas Party is Star Wars-themed. Many local artists have designed custom Star Wars comic book covers that will be raffled off towards the end of the event.

Previous years’ events have raised enough funds for tens of thousands of meals at the Cleveland Food Bank and this year's event is no different in scope.

Raffle tickets can be purchased for cash or traded for canned food items (up to 10 cans per person). Winners will be drawn at 10:30 p.m. You do not have to be present to win, but if you are, you can take your comic with you.

“All day on the 19th we'll have the custom Star Wars comic book covers displayed. These covers can be won through a basket raffle system where you can get tickets by donating food items or money. One food item, one ticket. One dollar, one ticket,” says John of Carol & John's.

Participating artists include Sequoia Bostick, CHOD, Randy Crider, Ryan Finley, Phil Fried, Ryan Kacsandy, Steve King, Pencilero, Henry Pope, Erin Schechtman, Tim Switalski, Dave Wendt, Craig Worrell and Thom Zahler.

Carol & John’s is also offering special sales throughout the day. Stop by for half-off all back issues, 20% off all graphic novels, action figures and statues and 10% off everything else in the store.

Lakewood’s Fear Confections ( will be serving up Star Wars chocolates, and there will be plenty of surprises at this one night only special event.

“We've got two freebies to give away. First is our custom Star Wars Christmas Lithograph designed by Jameson Campbell ( and inspired by the 1978 artwork of Dave Cockrum. 11X17 on card stock paper and free with any purchase. (Want a second one? We ask that you throw five bucks into the Cleveland Food Bank Fund). Also free with a purchase will be a Star Wars sampler comic, giving you previews of all the Star Wars Comics that are currently being published. As of this year, Disney owns both Marvel and Lucasfilm, and this association has helped to produce some of the best Star Wars comics ever. You can get a look at all of them in this book.”

Carol & John’s Customer Appreciation Christmas Party takes place from 8 to 11 p.m. this Saturday, Dec. 19.

(Disclosure: I’ll be donating a Star Wars cover as well)
