  • reports that LRMR, the marketing company established by LeBron James, Rich Paul, Maverick Carter and Randy Mims, is parting ways with Johnny Manziel.

Maverick Carter told reporter Joe Vardon that LRMR is moving toward managing LeBron's extensive business portfolio (not just sponsorship deals) and though Carter didn't say it directly, Manziel's off-field issues certainly seemed to accelerate what may have been an inevitable split anyway.

"I will continue to support and advise him as a friend," Carter told Vardon. "However, because Johnny needs to focus on personal growth, the next phase of his career and because LRMR continues to expand beyond marketing, we made the mutual decision that it was best to terminate our business relationship."

The classic "mutual decision."

Johnny emerged from Texas A&M in 2014 to no shortage of commercial fanfare — remember the Snickers ad? —  and LRMR was hired to manage all the marketing.

Now, after his latest Vegas exploits and another shake-up in the Browns' leadership structure, Manziel's future in Cleveland is anything but certain. Reports say he'd like to go back home to Texas and play for the Cowboys, whence, oddly enough, the Browns just interviewed the secondary coach for our head coaching spot, lately vacated by Mike Pettine.
