Former Crain's Publisher John Campanelli Officially Resigns

Former Crain's Cleveland Business Publisher John Campanelli issued an official resignation on Social Media Thursday, saying that he didn't want his recent sexual offenses to tarnish the standing of the publication in Cleveland's business community.

"I am eager to begin a new chapter," he wrote.

Campanelli was suspended from his post when allegations of his misconduct surfaced. He exposed himself to both a newspaper delivery woman at his Hudson home and to a female employee at the Aurora Inn. In a statement, Campanelli attributed his actions to traumatic events from his past.

He had been publisher at Crain's since December, 2013.

Editor Elizabeth McIntyre, who has been serving as interim publisher during Campanelli's ordeal, will assume the dual editor/publisher role permanently. Like Campaneilli, McIntyre is a Plain Dealer alum who worked for many years as a writer and editor there, before a stint at the Cleveland Foundation.

"Crain's success, its growth and its reputation will only grow under Elizabeth McIntyre. She possesses unmatched leadership, talent, news judgement and character," Campanelli wrote. "Crain's is in great hands."
