One of the nicest views of the Cleveland skyline is reserved for guests of the Cleveland Hostel, which opened in Ohio City about four years ago. Those who climb the stairs of the three-story building have unobstructed views of the West Side Market and the whole of Downtown.

Now, thanks to a new café that will be open to the public, all interested parties can take in those Instagram-worthy views. When it opens later this month, Passenger’s Café will serve up espressos, cappuccinos and drip coffees, all of which can be enjoyed on the roof, says owner Mark Raymond.

“There might be a lot of people who live in the neighborhood and say to themselves, Oh, the hostel is really cool but I have no reason to go there. This café gives them a reason to come. They can grab a cup of coffee, go up on the roof and check out the view.”

To accommodate the new café, the hostel lobby has been completely redesigned. Formerly just a spot for guests to check in and check out, the lobby has been transformed into a small but sleek coffee bar with seating for about 20 at tables, the coffee counter and along a window rail. Sidewalk seating will also be added.

“I wanted to have it down here to use the lobby more and also for the general public – to get more people into the hostel,” Raymond adds.

Raymond’s partner in the venture is Trey Kirchoff, who he describes as “the brains behind the operation.”

In addition to the coffee drinks, Passenger's will stock a daily selection of fresh bagels and pastries, along with various grab-and-go cold beverages.

All that remains between customers and their coffee is a final inspection, says Raymond.
