Here's the Lowdown on This Weekend’s Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon

Posted By on Fri, May 13, 2016 at 1:02 PM

[image-1]This weekend, Rite Aid is hosting its annual Cleveland Marathon. The event kicks off with a 5K and 8K race on Saturday, followed at 11 a.m. by the Kids Run. On Sunday, the 10K, half-marathon and marathon will all begin at 7 a.m.

Back for its 39th year, the Cleveland Marathon is a Boston Marathon qualifying race and is expected to draw more than 20,000 runners and walkers. Today, May 13, there is a Health & Fitness Expo taking place between 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Huntington Convention Center of Cleveland. This expo will offer health and fitness products/information, race registration, packet pick-up and official merchandise shops. This expo will continue Saturday from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.

Beginning at Quicken Loans Arena Sunday morning, marathon runners will run the 26.2-mile scenic course through some of Cleveland’s major landmarks — Lake Erie, the West Side Market and the Cleveland Museum of Art — ending on Lakeside and West 3rd. Roads will be closed starting at 2 a.m., and will reopen by 4 p.m. to ensure the safety of the runners. For a full list of road closings and times, click here.

Celebrating the finish of the marathon, Great Lakes Brewing Company is hosting the 26.3 Mile Rock Party starting at 8:30 a.m. including music, refreshments, a beer garden, merchandise sales and more.

Marathon runners should arrive to start by 6 a.m on Sunday. For more information, visit www.clevelandmarathon.com
