Pancreatic cancer will reportedly result in more deaths this year than breast cancer, making it the third-leading cause of cancer-related death in the United States. That stat comes courtesy of the the American Cancer Society’s recent Cancer Statistics 2016 report.

To raise awareness, the Pleasantville Affiliate of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network hosts PurpleStride Cleveland on Saturday at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo. The 5K awareness walk/run and 1 mile walk includes kid-friendly activities in the “purple play zone.” There will also be live entertainment.

Registration begins at 7 a.m.; the event commences at 8 a.m. The goal: “to advance research, support patients and create hope.”

“PurpleStride is our celebration of hope in the Cleveland community,” says Danielle Hanula, Media Relations Chair for the Cleveland Affiliate of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, in a press release. “We aren’t standing on the sidelines anymore. We are raising our voices for our families, friends and neighbors who have been touched by pancreatic cancer and doing our part to stop this terrible disease!”
