Frank Q. Jackson, Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson's 20-year-old grandson, was arrested last Friday on charges of carrying a handgun without a concealed carry permit. The offense is a fourth-degree felony.

According to court records, Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority police pulled up behind "a 2001 Ford F150 that was blocking traffic in the 4200 block of Green Court," reports The driver was a 17-year-old without a valid license.

During the arrest, officers found a .40-caliber Glock in the truck's center console and "loose marijuana on the floor" where Jackson was sitting.

Today Jackson appeared in Cleveland Municipal Court with his attorney, Sydney Saffold, for a preliminary hearing, Cleveland 19 News reports. Saffold spoke in defense of Jackson saying, "He's a lifelong Cleveland resident. He has strong ties to the community and is anxious to resolve this matter."

Jackson was released on personal bond by Cleveland Municipal Judge Carla Moore.

This isn't his first time in trouble with the law, Jackson has had two previous run-ins. Earlier this year he was pulled over for allowing someone to ride in the bed of his truck, and in July 2016, Jackson was arrested for illegally riding a dirt bike on the city streets.

Responding to the incident earlier this year, Jackson's grandfather told Cleveland 19 News:

"If many of the kids have guns, and young men have guns, they are going to have friends who have guns. Don't think I don't have a conversation. That's why he doesn't carry a gun. That's why he doesn't steal. That's why he doesn't sell drugs. Because I have these conversations with him."
