During a six-year run in the ‘90s, the local rock group Third Wish put out three CDs and played more than 200 shows in 22 states, performing with acts such as Guster, They Might Be Giants, Cowboy Mouth, Sister Hazel, Jackopierce, OAR and the Jayhawks.

After a ten-year hiatus, the group just announced it’ll play a reunion show on Aug. 12 at House of Blues.

Childhood friends, singer Dan Heberlein and guitarist Ryan Dawson began playing open mic nights around Cleveland’s west side.

“We never even talked about starting a band,” Dawson says in a press release. “We just did it for fun. We kept saying no [to offers to play bigger venues]; we were happy doing open mic nights. But come on, $200 and free beer … we couldn’t pass that up.”

The first 2,000 copies of the band’s 1995 debut, Strings of Culture, sold out in a flash, and the group started playing shows around the Midwest. Scene named the group “Rock Band of the Year” in 1996.

In addition to the group’s original lineup, the House of Blues show will feature guitarist Curtis Leonard, guitarist Tim Hruby and fiddler/mandolin player Greg Henderson.

“It will be a special night for us and for the fans who made Third Wish a part of their lives,” Heberlein says.

Doors for the show open at 8 p.m. Tickets are $20.
