Brandon Weems, a former teammate of LeBron James at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School in Akron, was recently promoted to Director of Scouting for the Cleveland Cavaliers. He was hired as a college scout for the Cavs in 2015 after coaching stints with the University of Kentucky, Drexel University and Oakland University in Detroit. The fit was natural; James has called Weems his "little brother."

The promotion got us wondering, though, what the rest of James' SV-SM teammates are up to now.

Dru Joyce III, the son of LeBron's high school coach, Dru Joyce Jr., was the starting point guard for SV-SM and one of LeBron's closest childhood friends. He's still playing basketball professionally, and has played in Germany for nine out of his ten years as a professional, which is quite an accomplishment considering the nomadic nature of European professional basketball.

Joyce III has had a very successful career in the top German league, Basketball Bundesliga. In 2016, he became the all-time leader in career assists in the history of the league while playing for S. Oliver in Wurzburg, the hometown of NBA Champion and Dallas Mavericks' star Dirk Nowitzki. Joyce III will be leaving the German league this year to play for Monaco.

Closer to home, Joyce III joined fellow SV-SM teammate Romeo Travis as a founder of Give'N Go Basketball Camp. The camp took place in Akron from July 31 to Aug. 3 this year.

Travis has also enjoyed a long career overseas. Since starring at the University of Akron with Joyce III, he's bounced around to many different countries. He's played in Ukraine, Spain, Germany, Israel, Croatia, Russia, France and Italy. Travis has twice been named MVP of his league in Europe. Last year, Travis was nationalized as a Macedonian citizen in order to play for their national team, which has been a common practice in recent years as teams work to get an American player onto their national squad. He played for the team in the 2016 EuroBasket Qualifiers.

Travis has also been busy off the court. He came up with the popular T-shirts that showed the number "23" in Cavaliers colors followed by a "greater than" sign and a "23" in Chicago Bulls colors, implying that LeBron was better than Michael Jordan. The shirts and similar hats were sold on Travis' personal site, rometrav.com, but they're now sold out. Travis is also popular on Twitter, amassing more than 20,000 followers. He will play for Le Mans in the French league this upcoming season.

Sian Cotton, one of the big men on LeBron's high school squads, was recruited to The Ohio State University to play football after high school. Cotton, a defensive tackle at OSU, only played four games there. Cotton is now a rapper, and actually got LeBron to record a song with him in 2015. LeBron is on the second verse.

Cotton has released two mixtapes, Black Moth and Coming Home. They can both be found here.

Willie McGee, another teammate from LeBron's high school days, was named the Athletic Director at St. Vincent St. Mary in 2015. McGee was an assistant basketball coach at Chowan University in North Carolina before returning home to Akron and his alma mater. McGee has also worked as a graduate assistant for the University of Akron.

He's a well known name in the Akron area, and he's held numerous influential positions. McGee has worked as a community support provider and case manager at the Minority Behavioral Health Group in Akron, and he's also been a youth sports coordinator at the YMCA in Akron.
