Local rockers the Angie Haze Project feature eccentric singer-songwriter Angie Haze, an Italian-American who sings while wearing bells around her ankle and plays a handmade tambourine shoe, drums/percussion, a guitar, a cowbell, melodica and a kazoo.

In last year’s International Songwriting Competition, she became a semi-finalist and then a finalist with the song “Wave Goodbye.” That song appears as a re-mastered bonus track on her new EP, Catching Bees With Honey.

Earlier this year, film producer Mari-Lynn Evans invited Haze to be featured in the screening tour of her Netflix documentary Blood on the Mountain, and Haze performed her track at the film’s premiere at the Akron Civic Theatre.

“I spent a full day trying to imagine what I could use to make a mining sound as part of the percussion [for the Blood on the Mountain song],” Haze explains in a press release announcing the new EP's release.

The new EP also features “Bad Habits,” a song written by local Jonah Koslen. The two have talked about collaborating for years and when Haze heard Koslen’s “Bad Habits,” she felt compelled to cover the tune.

“I remember, every time I’d go to rehearse the song with Jonah for [his concert] Stage Pass Now, we couldn’t make eye contact because we’d both start crying,” she says.

The band celebrates the EP's release with a performance at 7 p.m. on Saturday at Akron Pride. It then hits the road for some shows out of town.
