West 130th Street Construction Continues to Be a Shitshow

There are the usual gripes about orange-barrel season in Cleveland, the time when construction for this or that snares traffic and causes rush-hour delays, and then there's whatever fresh hell the residents, businesses and commuters around West 130th Street are dealing with recently.

The third phase of the $8 million repaving project on the major street between Bellaire and Enterprise has narrowed the thoroughfare to one lane, which has meant hour-long waits to traverse what normally would take but a few minutes. Late last week there were especially long delays and vocal residents who were rightfully upset as they voiced their qualms to Channel 5. Councilman Brian Kazy, explaining that since the project crosses three city boundaries, told the station that while police should have been out directing traffic, no one really knew who was actually responsible for getting boots on the ground. That being said, he promised Cleveland police would be out this week at one intersection and that Brook Park police would be at another. Has that helped? Not really, according to Channel 5's followup this week.

"I think it makes it worse," said Howard Wade. "Getting out of here has been atrocious."

Wade lives off of West 130th Street and he says he's almost ready to leave.

"I wanna move," he said. "Shows me what they think about this area."

"It was supposed to be completed in August. This is August, it's nowhere near completed," he said.

Kazy, meanwhile, said he's been getting an earful from residents and while there's not much more the city can do to ameliorate the problems, the road should open to two lanes in the coming weeks.
