Located in the Gordon Square Arts District, the locally owned and operated Capitol Theatre regularly presents special screenings of cult classics and oddball flicks that don’t receive wide distribution.

Earlier today, the venue announced the schedule for its upcoming Happy Hour Classic Film series, a monthly screening of a classic film that includes a happy hour cocktail party in the lobby before the feature. The parties start at 6 p.m., and the movies screen at 7. Tickets are $10.

“The Happy Hour Classics are a great way for film fans to mix and mingle with other movie lovers before seeing one of their favorite titles on the big screen,” says David Huffman, Cleveland Cinemas Director of Marketing and programmer of the series, in a press release announcing the schedule. “We have a great mix of contemporary classics as well as films from Hollywood’s Golden Age. No matter what kind of film you like, I know there is something in the series you’ll enjoy.”

Courtesy of Cleveland Cinemas, here are descriptions for the films on the fall schedule.

Heathers (Sept. 27)

In this classic black comedy from 1989, Winona Ryder stars as Veronica, the latest addition to the most powerful clique in high school made up of three girls all named Heather. When a mysterious new boy (Christian Slater) transfers to their school, Veronica falls for him and finds herself caught in his dark mission for revenge on the popular kids.

Carrie (Oct. 25)

Based on the novel by Stephen King, this classic horror film tells the story of a high school outcast who has telekinetic powers. Both Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie received Oscar nominations for their performances.

Valley of the Dolls (Nov. 29)

Based on the bestselling novel, this campy classic from 1967 tells the story of three women whose friendships are tested as they deal with the traps of being famous.

Meet Me in St. Louis (Dec. 13)

Judy Garland and Margaret O'Brien star in this heartwarming tale about an early 20th century St. Louis family who are faced with having to leave their beloved hometown when they learn their father has been transferred to New York. Judy Garland sings "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" and "The Trolley Song."
