A 1985 graduate of Chagrin Falls Highs School and an inductee into the Chagrin Falls Achievement Hall of Fame, Sean Kay is a member of the Department of Politics and Government at Ohio Wesleyan.

He’s written heady books such as NATO and the Future of European Security, Celtic Revival: The Rise, Fall, and Renewal of Global Ireland, America’s Search for Security: The Triumph of Idealism and the Return of Realism and Global Security in the Twenty-first Century: The Quest for Power and the Search for Peace.

And now, he’s turned his attention to rock 'n’ roll.

His new book, Rockin’ the Free World!: How the Rock & Roll Revolution Changed America and the World, includes more than 60 interviews with artists such as David Crosby, Graham Nash, Sinead O’Connor, George Clinton, Kate Pierson, Michael Stanley, Serj Tankian, Michael Franti, the Grateful Dead, R.E.M., Bonnie Raitt and Nirvana.

Kay will discuss the book and sign copies of it from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, at Fireside Book Shop in Chagrin Falls.

“I’m not trying to say that rock and roll causes change, like rock and roll ended the Cold War,” says Kay in a press release announcing the event. “But I am trying to show how it became part of a major sort of mass communication, amplifying ideas.”
