Live PD
is coming to Northeast Ohio, where the work of the Streetsboro Police Department will be broadcast directly into your living room (or bedroom, bathroom, smartphone, etc.). The A&E show premiered last fall, shedding a transparent and dramatic light on police officers' jobs all across the U.S.

"They ride with us, they don't create any type of narrative. We just do our job and they are there to document it," Streetsboro Police Chief Darin Powers told WEWS.

The whole idea is that cameras record officers' work in nearly real-time, and ABC chief legal affairs anchor hosts a panel that provides commentary on what's happening. It's very much like some NFL Sunday play-by-play banter. The show runs on a delay in case anything horrible happens.

Showrunners claim that the series isn't meant to be pro- or anti-cop, but rather a closer examination of what, precisely, these public employees do. (Powers told the news station that he's hoping the show will improve the department's relationship with the community.)

The Streetsboro action, which is accompanied by five other cities' police departments, will begin at 9 p.m. on Oct. 7.

...and it’s what we love to do. From local politics and culture to national news that hits close to home, Scene Magazine has been keeping Cleveland informed for years.

It’s never been more important to support local news sources, especially as we all deal with the ramifications of the coronavirus pandemic. Almost everything Scene is about -- our stories, our events, our advertisers -- comes down to getting together. With events on hold, and no print distribution for the foreseeable future, every little bit helps.

A free press means accountability and a well-informed public, and we want to keep our unique and independent reporting available for many, many years to come.

If quality journalism is important to you, please consider a donation to Scene. Every reader contribution is valuable and so appreciated, and goes directly to support our coverage of critical issues and neighborhood culture. Thank you.
