From the northern parts of Minnesota to Kyrie Irving's new residence in Boston, the country is freezing over. Thousands of flights are canceled and even parts of Southern Florida have dipped into the 30s. Here in Northeast Ohio, the National Weather Service of Cleveland has issued a Wind Chill Advisory until Saturday.

Issuing the warning today, NWS said in a statement, "Northwest winds will average 10 to 20 mph today with gusts to 25 mph. Northwest winds will average 5 to 15 mph tonight. The cold wind chills can cause frostbite in as little as 30 minutes to exposed skin."

NWS naturally recommends covering your skin in proper attire to prevent fun maladies like frost bite and hypothermia while going outdoors. Yes, during the winter, it gets cold here in Cleveland.

But in the end, it all evens out, says hydrometeorological technician Brian Mitchell with NWS of Cleveland.

"We're not setting any record temperatures for cold right now, but certainly below normal," Mitchell says. "We get in this pattern where we get cold snaps, but this one is going to be a bit prolonged. And then we may get warmer weather."

For the month of December, Mitchell says, Cleveland only ran about two-and-a-half degrees below average temperatures. He says that while it may seem tough now, looking into the next three months, the weather should shake out to average and should offer a normal snowfall range.

Anyone trying to get away this weekend: "The biggest risk of snow are in the traditional snow belt. So anyone traveling should be prepared," Mitchell says.

In more happy news, NWS predicts that Sunday brings rising temperatures, with highs near 29.

Ways to stay warm in Cleveland:
-RTA is offering free rides and keeping select locations open around the clock.
-City warming centers are staying open through Saturday.
-Keep your house at least at 58 degrees to prevent pipes from freezing.
